OpenEDC becomes the Confimedis Platform

Dear users,

you may have already noticed over the past few weeks that a few things have changed on our end. In the middle of last month, we converted our company from OpenEDC Health UG into Confimedis GmbH, and as of yesterday our platform now carries the new name everywhere as well.

In this post, we would like to briefly explain what is behind this change and what it means for you. To put your mind at ease right away: almost everything stays the same, but we want to keep improving and expanding our platform.

Why did we change our name?

The name “OpenEDC” accompanied us for a long time. It reflected the academic roots of our project, which was originally founded at University Hospital Münster – with the goal of making medical research simpler, more accessible, and more digital.

At some point, though, OpenEDC no longer fit what we had become. What began as a pure Electronic Data Capture system is today so much more: ePRO, eConsent, randomization, notifications, a mobile app, and much more.

Confimedis now stands for exactly what we want to represent. The name is derived from confidence (trust and security) and confirm (to validate, to verify) – precisely the values that form the foundation for everything in clinical research. And with our step toward becoming a GmbH, we underline this once more: we are now a full-fledged, grown-up company, with everything that entails.

What changes for you?

Our goal is a holistic research platform that brings together all the important processes of a medical research project in one place. For researchers, doctors, patients, DiGA and medical device manufacturers – and, finally, developers who can integrate their own solutions through our SDK. Together, we want to make outstanding research projects possible.

Over the coming weeks and months, further modules will follow, including an integrated eTMF, video visits, and appointment management. What stays the same: support that does its best to help as quickly as possible, a high level of usability, and open data standards. These are and will remain our highest priorities.
